...For Chris Cudnoski, being green is as simple as opening a door. Cudnoski is the candlemaking owner of Makes Sense Candle Company in Green Bay.

"I don't let the waste heat from my ovens go to waste in the winter," he said. And in the summer, I open my front and back doors to let a breeze come through and to advertise my scented candles."

Recently, Cudnoski added a new product line of soy candles in his Dousman Street shop to meet the rising demand for eco-friendly gifts. He also runs a Candles for Clunkers program that pays customers with credit for recycling jars and containers...

"Candles for Clunkers" Program Overview

Do you have a pile of old wax candles clunking around in a drawer? Or a cupboard full of teacups or glasses collecting dust? At Makes Sense Candle Company, these "clunkers" are worth something to candlemaker Chris!

When you recycle your old wax, teacups, glasses, baby food jars (or anything else that can be made into a candle), you'll be issued CLUNKER CREDIT good toward the purchase of brand new, hand-poured gel or soy candles at Makes Sense - 415 Dousman Street, next to The Exclusive Company and Save-A-Lot foods in Downtown Green Bay, WI.

Our program is easy (unlike any government program!): You'll get a credit of 25 cents per pound of old wax, and 50 cents each for usable cups, jars and glasses. Baby food jars are worth 25 cents credit each. You can cash in your clunker credit to purchase Chris's amazing eco-friendly soy or long-burning gel candles that fill your home with great aromas.

What is gel wax? Well, it resembles its name!

Gel wax brings out your creativity. Because gel wax is visibly clear in color and thick, the possibilities are endless. You can suspend items in it to create aquarium scenes, and the color allows a unique "glow" from the flame.

Perhaps the most noticeable different of gel wax is its ability to burn three times slower than traditional wax. The flame is much smaller on gel candles and disperses scents wonderfully. Trimming the wick often helps maintain the integrity of your gel candle.

LONGER BURNING - Soy candles burn at cooler temperatures than paraffin wax, and therefore have a longer average burn time, effectively making your purchase more economical.
